Yes, the name of this sickness is funny and it is because a Japanese guy discovered it!
But what’s funnier, is that these days we call ‘a sickness’ when our bodies send us smart alarms everytime we consume something wrong but instead of stop consuming it, we call it a sickness.
Either we feel tired, or have headaches, or have stomach problems or whatever, we just take them for granted and wrongly we try everything for our bodies to handle more toxic products, taking ‘medicines’ thinking that there is something wrong with us.
Hashimoto is a sickness that I was born with but recently, since 2 years ago I learned how to deal with it. In short words, it means that when my body is inflamed, my own body attacks my thyroid and therefore it can’t work properly itself. This can cause then that I get sick easily on anything and that my body can’t get in balance properly to recover soon.
So, an easy answer to handle ‘this sickness’ was 80% adding healthy habits and a proper diet to prevent the inflammation in my body and overall taking care of my microbiota which is my second brain.
By now, I might be the healthiest person among many people because of these changes.

What are the main things that inflame my body?
- Water: Unfortunately Peruvian water is not the best and we absolutely can’t drink water directly from the pipes anywhere in the country. I use a reverse osmosis water filter installed in my kitchen to clean the water from microorganisms, fluor, chlorine and other things.
- Gluten and derivatives: I found out that gluten, oatmeal and derivatives cause me a horrible brain fog. Now I eat tubers instead.
- Grains: Rice, corn, cereals and a few others. Instead I eat dried nuts in small quantities.
- Vegetable oils: This causes inflammation to my microbiota, so I use ghee or coconut oil to cook and I bring them everywhere I go.
- Sugar: This is one of the main things that inflame my body. Therefore I use stevia from the plant instead and I only eat fruits maybe twice a week and as a dessert.
- Products that come on packages: These come with a lot of chemicals and sugar that makes me tired and my body swells.
- Cleaning and cosmetic products: Come with lots of toxins that cause irritation to my skin, and the fluor to my thyroid, therefore I only use natural products in shampoos, soaps, dental paste, repellent, sun block, etc.
- And my Non-negotiables meals everyday are wild/pasture/free animal proteins, vegetables, good oils like ghee or cooconut oil, tubers and 100% chocolate paste with stevia (the plant). So I mainly eat what the earth produces without processing.
You might wonder how the hell I eat and live then?
This is the same question I wondered when I started these habits, until I found out that most of the list above are actually toxic for ANY PERSON, not just for me! Read everything again and you will see! The only difference is that my body warns me with strong signs as it cannot tolerate them anymore.
Fortunately Peru is a producer of a huge variety of fresh vegetables and I learnt new recipes to vary each day. But most important was discovering a new life after feeling amazing with these changes.

What happens if I can’t do this while travelling?
Of course there are many things that I can’t control while travelling but I do my best to keep myself healthy as much as I can.
My body gives me alarms mainly in the way of stomach problems or brain fog with the gluten, so if I eat something bad, I have to deal with the pain for a few hours. I won’t die but it is just uncomfortable and if I keep eating bad for many days, I can get flu or I start to retain liquids as my immune system starts getting bad.
So I try to choose smart wherever I am, with the options I have. Nothing that I can’t handle. Besides, I help myself with natural supplements like vitamins, omega 3, Magnesium, etc.

My plants medicines
I am like a modern plant healer these days. I learned how to prepare medicinal plants at home and I heal myself using them. I have refused to take chemical medicines for 2 years now and it has been an amazing journey.

To tell you an example, at the beginning of August this year, just a few weeks ago, I had a dental surgery, doctors put 2 implants inside my bone and I only took essential oils to recover, not analgesics or anti inflammatory pills or antibiotics at all! The only thing I took were essential oils drops inside empty capsules and it was successful!
After a week, I got the stitches out! This was a unique experience, even for the doctors that are now planning to put my case on a magazine!
This has proven to me that my body is stronger than ever!
So during my travels, I carry all my medicinal plants! And you might see me taking them during the meals (if one day we travel together), which of course, I am happy to share my knowledge with you! Also in recent months I am studying more about healing with plants for my personal life so if you feel like sharing or exchanging knowledge, let me know!
Lastly, I really would like to bring the call to be more conscious in our lives in all the ways we consume things; either for eating, or wearing, or using. Our bodies are very smart in handling toxins but if we don’t take care of it, one day it can be broken forever and we might be too late to add the changes in our lives.
Have an amazing life!
